Somedays, Pinterest just doesn't cut it...

With websites like Pinterest and Etsy, it's so easy to become engulfed in 'pinning' and 'liking' that we forget about the actual creative things happening in our own communities.

Don't get me wrong, some days just call for a good cup of coffee, a lap-top, and some sensory overload via thumbnail pictures online. ( I often find myself taking 'pinterest-breaks' between my late night study sessions...)

However...

Somedays you need to close your lap top, grab a friend, and head out to places that call for appreciating food, art, and people in a physical space. There is something truly special about "oooh"&"ahhh"-ing over a piece of art that hasn't been photographed and splashed all over cyberspace.

Today I had the pleasure of spending time with a lovely friend of mine at such a place.  We logged out of our respective Pinterest accounts and headed to: Make it,a handmade revolution  at the Croatian Cultural Centre.  If Pinterest was a store, this place would have been it.  We indulged in desserts, tried on handmade jewellry and browsed through booths of unique hand made goods...all while listening to live music!  Could it get any better?!

Make it wraps up today. But if you miss out on this this event, there are many more opportunities to appreciate local artisans this holiday season:

Holiday Farmers Market -  Hosted by the Vancouver Farmers market, this is another great event at the Croatian Cultural Centre.  December 17th, 10AM-5PM

Fieldstone Vintage Market- A friend of mine helps organize this event every year. This is an outdoor market with 27 lovely vendors- dress warm and bring cash.. It's a little far, but if you're in Abbotsford on December 3rd between 12PM-5PM- go!

Bakers Market- Located at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre, this market is ongoing every Saturday from 11AM-3PM. A special Christmas Bakers Market will be happening on December 3rd and 10th, 1PM-3PM. (If you go to this market, try out the macaroons made by French Made Baking)

Got Craft Christmas Fair and One of a Kind Show are a few other events happening this December, I haven't been to either of these events, but I've heard good things!

That should keep our laptops at bay, at least for a little while....

Dear Kate Moss,

Have you been living under a rock?!  There are plenty of things that taste as good as skinny feels.
I have taken the liberty of listing a few examples for you:

Croissants (I personally enjoy the Thomas Haas Double Baked Almond Croissant)

Butter Chicken (Given India was part of the British Crown until 1947, you'd think you would know about this fine dish)
Pasta alla Carbonara ( You've modeled in Milan, and your telling me you've never stepped off the runway and grabbed a good 'ol plate of pasta?)
Deep Fried Prawns ( Deep fried anything, really.)

Anything my mom makes (Granted, you've never met my mom...but surely someones mom could cook you something)
This is not a comprehensive list, but I hope it helps you out.  No one in the world  should be unlucky enough to believe that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

Sincerly,

me (and my tastebuds)
